The Bonfiglio Family 2021 Christmas Letter

Aloha and Merry Christmas ‘21 from Vic and Mary in Honolulu ……

We are settled into a new routine that pleases us very much since we took the house off the market in August 2020 and decided to just STAY. Although it is very similar to previous years, subtle changes have occurred: Ocean swims increased. I have joined Vic more often than I could ever have imagined doing, thanks to ski poles! You read that right; Vic saw I was having real trouble entering and exiting the ocean with my arthritic knees, so he suggested them. My modified strokes & treading water may look odd, but I do not fall down! My favorite beaches are Hickam harbor & Ala Moana. Vic’s favorite continues to be Eternity Beach (Halona Cove by the blowhole) & although he doesn’t get out there as often as he would wish, on our recent sunrise trip, he proved to himself and all in the audience that he can still climb the cliff to the heiau, free-style!

Vic’s turn: My various jobs have modified a little: I’m very involved in community life through private pilot instruction at the new Pacific Flight Academy. I just soloed Student Number 53! Lifeguard duties continue at Tripler. The Army continues to pay me 24 and a half cents a minute to swim and have fun. I’m still teaching, often as a by-name-request teacher at Le Jardin High School. The additions of FAAST team safety board and the Hawaii state Campaign Spending Commission kept me busy doing Zoom. I also had the opportunity to be a mentor, tour guide, lifeguard and history teacher for Abbey Road Student Tours. VERY enjoyable experience. There were only two North Shore ocean races this year and I’m happy to report that I’m still swimming an ocean mile in 51 minutes.

We have both increased our dedication to fitness: we often go to the gym together, do yoga-type stretches on the floor and eat our “proteins and greens” sans bread! A lot of former yummy items have disappeared from our kitchen and our pantry with resulting favorable results …. !!!

We send our thoughts, good wishes & prayers for your happy, safe Christmas with continuing appreciation of God’s blessings in the New Year.

Vic and Mary
