From Deadman's Trail

The Russell Family 2021 Christmas Letter

2021    Merry Christmas     2021

We have been following all the COVID19 guidance - shots, masks staying home, etc, and the impact on us retired folks, compared to many, has been minimal. Pat's new 2021 mid-engine retractable hardtop convertible Corvette was accepted at the Corvette Museum Bowling Green, Kentucky on January 25th. Nita opted out of making the trip (COVID, airlines & weather), but Pat's brother Mike and wife Barbara went, plus they were able to visit cousins in Nashville. After taking delivery, Pat had a private hauler transport the Vette - it was delivered to our home on January 28th.

Daughter Kathy remains busy at Nathan Adelson Hospice for three 12 hour night shifts per week. Nita and Kathy's outings continue to be mostly shopping at Costco & Sam's Club.

Second son Andy, daughter-in-law Spon and their children, Naomi (14) in 9th grade, Jonah (11) in 6th and Vance (6) in kindergarten, have all done well during the pandemic. Spon and Naomi were staying home for work and school. Now school & work are back to normal. We were super pleased that we were able to spend last Christmas with them in San Ramon. They drove down in July and spent five days with us. In October, Pat and his brother Mike made a quick trip to San Ramon to retrieve Andy's 1999 Mazda Miata with Mike's truck/trailer - the silver Miata needs some TLC since it hasn't been driven in a few years.

We are very happy that Jim, our oldest, and Fran Zenzen got married in Scottsdale AZ on April 10th. They have relocated from Tempe to Annandale VA. Jim's three children are doing great. Joe (26) is busy working in DC as a member of Arizona's Senator Mark Kelley's staff. Katie (24) was working for Orutsararmiut Native Council in Bethel, Alaska, but recently moved to Juneau and accepted a position with the US Dept of Agriculture. Steve (19) is a sophomore at the University of Nevada in Reno and has been in-class vs online for the most part this semester.

Nita, Kathy and Pat had a milestone trip in May to attend the wedding of Grandson Joe and Danni Melton on May 23rd in Maryland. We stayed with Jim and Fran in their new house in Annandale, VA and thoroughly enjoyed our visit with all the family. Click here to view more wedding pictures.

We were just notified that the Rivian R1T electric pick-up we ordered in November 2018 will be delivered in the March/April 2022 time frame. We are pleased that the solar panels we've had on the house for the past seven years will provide power for Nita's new truck.

If you are planning a trip to the Las Vegas area - call and come visit!

Wishing you a memorable Holiday season!
