The Pauli Family 2007 Holiday Letter

December 2007

Dear Classmates,

Here are the quick facts about the Pauli family to let you know what has gone on with us in 2007 and what we are anticipating for 2008.

On May 7th Erik Shipley proposed to Becky Pauli on the apex of a balloon ride in Baltimore and she said yes (lucky him). The wedding is planned for April 12, 2008 in Clifton, Virginia.

On May 12th 2nd Lt Aaron Pauli proposed to Marian Niese on top of a mountain in Albuquerque and she said yes (lucky him). The wedding is planned for June 21, 2008 in Medina, Ohio (a suburban area near Cleveland).

In June our daughter Robin Maranian, husband Major Ara Maranian, Elizabeth Peter, and Canine Abby moved from San Antonio to Clifton, Virginia. We have discovered the joy of playing with grandkids then handing them back to their owners for unscheduled maintenance. Ara has joined a Cardiology Clinic in Manassas, VA, and will be happy to fit you into his schedule if anyone wants a heart tune-up.

On July 2nd, Sgt Rob Pauli left for Fort Jackson, S.C. to begin pre-deployment training for a tour of duty in Iraq as a U.S. Army Intelligence analyst.

On August 9, 2007, Bob became eligible for Mr. Roosevelt's pension. He now has a new appreciation for that deduction that has been coming out of his pay all these years. "Hello pension, goodbye tension." Well not yet, but probably in 2008 or maybe 2009.

On October 6th, Rob departed the States for Iraq. He expects to return in July 2008. To the great relief of all in the Pauli household, Rob has been assigned to an intelligence unit in the Green Zone in Baghdad and will not be making any local door-to-door house calls. He has taken up residence in one of Saddam's Palaces (Sgt. Pauli didn't get Saddam's Presidential Suite; he got a nicely converted bathroom), but he appears safely ensconced there. Please keep his safety and that of all our troops in your prayers.

On December 16th, 1Lt Billy Pauli was awarded the degree of Master of Arts in International Relations by St Mary's College, San Antonio. Also in December Billy successfully terrorized the skies over and around San Antonio, Texas, and was awarded his private pilot's license, which he has been diligently pursuing. Billy is still looking for his first passenger but so far all of the family are following that old military dictum "Never volunteer for anything."

On December 1st, after 20 years at Dominion Hospital, Sue informed her employer that she will be going part-time starting in February 2008. My Costco splurges will never be the same.

I am in my sixth year as a Systems Engineer with Northrop Grumman TASC in Chantilly, VA. Plans are to continue as long as it's fun and interesting (and they pay me).

That's the quick summary for the Pauli household this year. We are excited for the two upcoming weddings and feel blessed Erik and Marion will be joining our extended family. Health is good, children doing well, life is good. From our household to yours, we wish you a Blessed and Happy New Year.

Bob and Sue

Isn't it amazing how we're beginning to resemble our parents (grandparents?). But as I'm sure you're discovering, life is good at every stage. The following photo is of Sue and me enjoying the evening on our Canadian vacation last summer.
