We made the polaris prominent as our guide, to remind us of our principles that were instilled at the Zoo. It was a time of war, so the sabre was a graphic balance to polaris and the eagle, racing right, was facing the sabre. The "X" for tenth class, obviously. But the atomic symbol is a mystery, except that we were all eager as hell to graduate and go pell-mell into the future.

All I recall from the design debates is that we wanted our crest to be as simple as possible, compared to previous class rings, and we thought we had achieved that goal.
