Gerald "Jerry" Frank Wyngaard
August 13, 1946 - February 17, 2022
Col.
(Ret) Jerry Wyngaard passed away Feb 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving
family. Jerry was the first young man to attend a military academy
from his hometown of Kimberly, Wis. At USAFA, he excelled in calculating
mathematics and playing football.
After graduating from the Academy, his career included new and unique
experiences. He was a football coach and recruiter, a pilot in Vietnam
and Charleston, an instructor pilot in Texas, a masters student
at North Carolina State University in applied math, and a math instructor
at USAFA. He then transitioned to his functional area of operations
research in Texas, Colorado
and Virginia. Jerry proudly served in the Air Force for 27 years.
Upon retirement, Jerry taught math and coached football in high school.
He took his teaching skills to the Riverside Regional Correctional
Facility for several years in a prison ministry. Always looking forward,
Jerry earned a masters degree in pastoral theology from Loyola
University, and later completed a second theology masters to
be ordained as a Catholic deacon. He faithfully ministered in this
capacity at Good Samaritan and Saint Gabriels Catholic Churches.
He is remembered for his endless enthusiasm and generous heart. He
is survived by his wife of 54 years, Candy Wyngaard, and his five
children: daughters, April Guminsky and husband, Michael; Rebecca
Wright and husbandTucker; sons Todd Wyngaard and wife, Kim; David
Wyngaard and wife, Thelma; and Peter Wyngaard and wife, Patty. He
is also survived by his siblings Jack
Wyngaard, Judy Ebert and Joe Wyngaard.
He was actively involved in the lives of his 15 grandchildren.
At the end of every church service, in his full 62 height,
Jerry would raise both arms, smile at the congregation, and loudly
proclaim, The mass is ended! Go in peace to love and serve the
Lord! Be at peace, Jerry! (Rebecca Wright and Todd Wyngaard)
