Dick Frey

Richard Frey

Richard Frey (Capt, USAF, Ret), Class of 1968, died of a heart attack, 14 February 1980, in Apple Valley CA. He is survived by his wife, Fran, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Frey. Dick served as a Flight Commander of the 12th Cadet Squadron during his 1st Class year. He was on the Dean's List two semesters, was a member of the Year Book Staff and majored in International Affairs. After receiving his pilot wings at Sheppard AFB, Dick flew 197 combat missions as a F-100 pilot with the 309th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Tuy Hoa AR and the 614th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Phan Rang AB. He was later assigned to Laredo AFB as an Instructor Pilot Flight Examiner and Webb AFB as a T-37 pilot. He then flew the F-105G with the 56 1st Tactical Fighter Squadron at George AFB from 1976- 1978. After being medically retired on 11 December 1978, Dick attended the Victor Valley College. Dick's medals include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, 13 Air Medals, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Vietnamese Armed Forces Honor Medal 1st Class. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Cadet Chapel on 19 February with burial at the Air Force Academy Cemetery.
