We had a great class breakfast and aviation-fest at the home of Dave and Jeanne Allen on Saturday, Aug 1st. The highlight was a visit by Al Burchett, who braved thunder storms to fly from his workplace in South Dakota on Friday. It was great to see Al again. He stays in touch with Larry Cole, Mike Rengal, Ralph Kaspari, Eli Bebout, and others. Left is Dave and Jeanne with their 1934 vintage WACO biplane. They basically built it from scratch, and they are restoring two more. You can see their lovely house to the right, and their hangar is behind them. They live on an airpark north of Colorado Springs, where they build/rebuild airplanes and taxi out of their hangar directly onto a taxiway for takeoff. It is a marvelous place. They are very active in the antique aircraft community, and they love to share their passion by taking people for rides in their vintage airplane. Attending were; Carl Janssen, Bill Wood, Doug Wilson, Al Burchett, Bill Eckert, Craig Baer, Bob Marks, Vince Rusinak, and Howie Towt. All of us were joined by our lovely ladies. (Carl Janssen) |
