50th Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes - October 17, 2017

Class of '68 50th Reunion Committee Meeting
Tuesday, October 17, 2017 @ 1400 hours
South Conference Room of Doolittle Hall


I. Introduction
Mike Parkinson presented a reproduction of the "Bring Me Men" poster from 1968. Producing the poster for the reunion was rejected because of cost

Mike explored suggestions from the gift committee for recognizing or acknowledging individual donors. There was some objection to individual recognition.

II. Survey Results and individual events

Mike shared the results of the event preferences identified in the class survey. Based on these results, volunteers for organizing the individual events and facility conflicts, the following events will be explored in detail for possible inclusion in the reunion registration package.

A. Pre-reunion
A conference or Skype call will be offered that explores reasons for and information related to retirement in Colorado Springs. Nancy Rusinak will be in charge of this event but will need help from people currently living in or retired in COS.

B. Events for Thursday, October 4, 2018
1. A golf tournament will be included to be organized by Al Blumberg and Barney Mills - This was one of the most popular options identified in the survey
2. Gary Vasek will continue to explore options for a pheasant hunt.
3. Doug Wilson will continue to explore options for a fly fishing trip.
3. A visit to Kelly Airpark will be included to be organized by Dave Allen. Options to be explored include how to deal with lunch and glider rides. This was one of the most popular options identified in the survey
4. A WWII Aviation Museum tour will be organized by Vince Rusinak. We will explore making this a morning option so reunion attendees may visit the museum and have time for other activities in the afternoon.
5. Vince Rusinak and Neal Starkey will organize a visit to Falcon Stadium. This visit may be short enough to permit reunion attendees to have time for another activity on Thursday.
6. Bill Maywhort and Bill Wood will organize Segway tours of Garden of the Gods. This event is about two hours so reunion attendees will have time for other activities on Thursday.
7. The following events appeared popular from the survey results and will be explored if we can confirm someone to organize them.
a. Trolley Tour of Garden of the Gods
b. Visit to Seven Falls
c. Pikes Peak Cog Railroad
8. The Hotel/Venue Committee will be responsible for organizing a reception at the Double Tree on Thursday evening.

C. Events for Friday, October 5, 2018
FOR ALL OF THE FRIDAY EVENTS OUR AOG REPRESENTATIVE URGED US TO AVOID CONFLICTS WITH ACADEMY EVENTS AND FACILITY USES BY OTHER CLASSES HOLDING REUNIONS THE SAME DAY.

1. There was interest in a Mews tour. Bill Wood (possibly with Tony Marshall) will explore this option.

2. There was significant interest in a briefing and/or demonstration of Cyber facilities. This event is being organized by Garry Dudley, Mike Parkinson and the AFA's Computer Science Department.

3. One of the frequently mentioned events was a memorial service. Dale Oderman, Garry Dudley, Bob Denny and Ed Leonard are organizing this event in the Cadet Chapel (Most recent reports from the Academy indicate the Chapel will be available during our reunion).

4. A senior staff briefing and lunches at Mitchell Hall and Doolittle Hall are being organized by the AOG.

5. Dinner and reception at the Double Tree will be organized by the Hotel and Venue committee.

D. Events for Saturday, October 6, 2018

1. An early AM time will be allocated for doolie squadron breakfast or gatherings. Art Miller agreed to help organize these events.

2. At a time dependent on the football schedule arrangements will be made for reunion attendees to go to the Navy at AF football game. The AOG is working on tailgate options. Ed Leonard agreed to explore stadium-seating options outside the area set aside for reunions. Vince Rusinak agreed to explore options for a corporate tent inside the stadium fence.

3. At a time dependent on the football schedule arrangements will be made for a football watch party at the Double Tree. Gary Hoffman and Mike Parkinson are making these arrangements with the Hotel/Venue Committee.

4. The time after the football game will be set aside for individual squadron gatherings. These events are being left to individual squadrons to organize.

E. Event for Sunday, October 7, 2018

Carl and Debbie Janssen will host an open house/reception

III. Miscellaneous/Other

A. Charles Price was selected by a double blind drawing as the winner of a free night in the conference hotel. He was selected from the names of all classmates who completed the reunion preference survey.

B. We still need volunteers to help with:
Design and production of nametags for the reunion
Transportation between events

C. The next committee meeting will be at 1400 on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. At that time individuals in charge of each event will report on details to include: cost, timing, any requirements for deposits, restrictions on attendance.
