"President of the USAFA Class Advisory Senate and Bride" L-R: Garry and Tina Dudley

NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT: I asked our '68 representative to the Class Advisory Senate, Garry Dudley, to send me an update on his activities. Garry has been a mainstay of our Class' participation in USAFA enterprises and volunteer work for decades and is the leader of our efforts to support our 50-Year Legacy Class of 2018. He was selected by the Senators of all the other USAFA Classes to serve as President of the Class Advisory Senate. Garry's remarks are as follows: "I keeping busy with a multitude of committees, subcommittees, and boards [the total is 11] and I still guest lecturer with the Management Department (DFM) in Fairchild Hall. As the Class Advisory Senate (CAS) President I specialize in herding cats! As I like to say, 'My greatest pleasure in life (other than Tina) is working with my classmates and fellow Academy grads. The biggest pain in my life is [pause for effect] working with my classmates and fellow Academy grads!' As the CAS President, I also serve on the AOG Board. There some really great folks doing hard work for grads and cadets. We are still sponsoring cadets - keeps us young! The Gift Committee, the Legacy Committee and the Reunion Committee should slow down a little in a few months and maybe life will return to normal. Tina is still busy with the DAR both at the chapter and state level. We are planning a trip to the DAR National Conference this summer! Her most recent interest is the new DNA testing options. [It is confirmed - we are not first cousins!] Tina has gifted several seniors at the local independent living center a DNA kit and then follows up with a report for them when the results come back - very popular! We are blessed and enjoying life to the fullest - great social life with classmates and others in Colorado!" In addition to Garry's comments, his term as CAS President will be ending in the near future. He is asking for your support by voting for him in the upcoming election for the AOG Board of Directors.

'68ER RECEIVES USAFA DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD: If you happened to read the winter edition of Checkpoints, you may have noticed that our classmate Carl Janssen was the 2017 recipient of the USAFA Distinguished Service Award. This is an incredible honor bestowed to only a very few of those who have made significant and lasting contributions to our alma mater. To Carl and Debbie, a hearty '68 congratulations for your outstanding and exceptional service. To see the video of the ceremony or read more about the reason Carl received this award, please check out the information available on our Class website.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS: We are deeply saddened by the loss of our classmate Wayne Boyd Petersen. Wayne was born in Logan, Utah and spent his early years on the family farm in Caldwell, Idaho. He was a member of 4H and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Idaho hills. He married his wife Jean in the Cadet Chapel, two days after our graduation and went to pilot training at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas. He flew HC-130 Rescue aircraft out of Hickam AFB, Hawaii in support of the Skylab missions and in 1974 received his MS degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Later that year, he was stationed at Korat Royal Thai Air Base and participated in the evacuation of Saigon and Phnom Penh. Future assignments included a range of duties at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona; Nellis AFB, Nevada; and Randolph AFB, Texas. Wayne lost his battle with cancer on July 10, 2017 in Southlake, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his three children: Douglas, Jayson, and Katie; and his four grandchildren: Sydney, Jakob, Audrey, and Parker. Please keep Jean and Wayne's family in your thoughts and prayers.
